How effective is the
combination of your main product and ancillary text?
My project consisted of producing a movie trailer for my
main task with two ancillary tasks alongside it. When working with the horror
genre I knew I had to make sure all three tasks had to have to same feeling to
them giving my audience that instant reconginsistion, so setting a theme to my
editing skills would be the best idea. I have produced, all three tasks on
different software platforms meaning my editing would have very different
approaches. Due to this I then looked into how I would set a theme to my
editing style this meant I had to look into keeping them of a similar style. A
good idea that came from this would be the use of a colour filter throughout
all three tasks.
My trailer, magazine and poster would all be used to promote
my film “Chain reaction” for the horror genre.
Each text will promote my film in a very different way to each other.
For example, my trailer which would be displayed on Social networking, blogging
and video sharing sites (Facebook, Youtube, Tumblr) on there I would display my
trailer to promote and sell to audiences who are intisted by the Horror genre.
A trailer is a short film that is created to advertise a movie. The trailer is
usually made up of quick snippets from the film itself and edited in a quick
and short way not revealing too much of the story and editing with a song
choice and jumpy sound effects. My poster would also be promoting this film
but, in a different way, as a poster is not moving you have to make sure the
poster is edited and giving the most information as possible for the audience
to be interested. From past experiences I knew that my audience would want to
see a gory but, discrete poster. As this poster would be displayed on
billboards, magazines, movie theatres, etc I knew that certain elements of my
poster had to be clear for example, the object that the girl is holding it had
to be clear it was a phone, so I generally went for the most popular phone
(iPhone) where most of my audience would know and recognise this layout. I then
had to begin to think about my magazine cover, when a film magazine generally
focuses on a film on the main cover and often shows images that include the
main characters from your film to interest your audience. So that’s where I got
the idea of featuring my killer on the magazine.
By using three different ways to promote my target audience (Students 16-25) I am able to reach a mass audience rather than just selecting a few people to watch it privately... Other ways in which I could promote my film would be through converging with other companies similar to what Avatar did when they converged with Coca-Cola. By promoting in ways like this both sides earn profit and recognition.
