A Clockwork Orange
Over 40 years ago a film adaptation A Clockwork Orange was produced, written and directed by Stanley Kubrick. Starring Alex as one of the main characters and also the narrator of the film. Making the audience experience his view of the suffering he endured whilst paying for the trauma he had cause. This makes every word on the page and the main highlight of this film. When the film first begins we are introduced to a very animalistic teenager programmed from violence with his other gang members. Alex clearly shows characteristics of being the leader of the Gang of Droogs. Alex speaks in the stylized slag called Nadsat like most of the teenage characters in the film. ALex represents a typical teenager in the film, hangs out in all the top hangouts, dresses to impress and is the undisputed leader of his gang. When watching A Clockwork Orange I had a strong feeling it fell into the Horror genre but throughout my research of the film I found that it falls into scifi as it features "futuristic" Britain. But personally the disturbing scenes of sexual violence and psychological references made the film thrilling and rather scary but, that is maybe just my view as a "subtle" film watcher.

Another point I didn't get to the film was the milk bars? Creating an atmosphere almost pub/bar like but for milk is this just an element added to show futuristic Britain drunk on milk? Characters Alex and his other "Droogs" would spend their nights getting high on milk before embarking on the regular acts of thuguary & violence.

Kubrick decided to withdraw the films from British distribution after copy cat crimes in England after the film was released but, was later distributed again once Kubrick’s death and was released in 2000?
